As an artist working in oils, I paint landscapes in plein air whenever possible. I love to incorporate nature and being in the moment into an artistic expression. Painting in nature forces me to paint quickly, capture the moment and try to produce a painting that answers the emotional response that drew me to the scene. I paint in a traditional manner, laying in the darks first and working toward the lights. I try to see the finished painting in my head before I start to enable me to have a plan for the painting to evolve.
I paint varied locations in the USA and Europe. I have followed the trail of some of the Impressionist painters. While in France I painted on the grounds of Cezanne's studio, in Monet's garden, and at the le cloitre of VanGogh where he painted his last paintings.
I spent 20 plus years in the graphic arts field building up to do what I love best, painting! Traveling, being outdoors and painting are all apart of the art experience for me. I love the process and the final product.
I paint larger pieces in the studio from smaller studies that are produced outdoors. That is as much apart of the painting process for me as the outdoor process. They cannot be separated and both enhance the other.
My paintings are sold internationally.
